Project Background

MVP.dev is a company specializing in developing MVP apps leveraging no-code and AI technology in building applications, offering complete solutions for startups, small businesses, and even huge organizations. The company has helped hundreds of startups and enterprises with MVP apps on many platforms, including Bubble.io, and they provide clients with the best technological solutions. When I joined the company in February 2020, I already noticed that the company (formerly Bituin.tech, now it’s MVP.dev) had only two designers because the other designer was about to leave the company, which made me the replacement and assigned to this project.

The Challenge (Version 1)

I had a discussion with our CEO about these project tasks and the direction of how we’re going to structure the website content and gain website traffic. He is aiming to launch this project in a month.

As a UI/UX designer, it was my role to work one-on-one with our CEO on this project as a designer and, at the same time, as a developer, and have it launch in 4 weeks. The website was already published to live. The first step I took was to conduct a website audit and propose solutions to the problem I found in my audit.

Website Audit:

  • The logo needs rebranding
  • Needs restructuring of the content and pages
  • Website pages are built using hard-coded static pages (HTML and CSS) and WordPress pages at the same time.
  • There are no SEO tools set up, and there’s no way to track the website traffic and performance.

Previous Logo design and website design:

My Approach

Due to a tight time frame, I had to skip some of the design processes for this project. I broke the task into three parts: logo design, mockups, and WordPress development. I created versions of the logo and submitted them to our CEO for approval. Once the logo was approved, I applied the branding color and created a basic style guide to use during mockups and development. Our CEO provided changes to the content and website copy in several sections of the web pages. After all the back-and-forth iterations, we finally moved forward to development. I also set up Google Search Console and Google Analytics to track website traffic and online presence.

The New Challenge (Version 2)

Fast forward to 2022, and the company has grown from 13 team members to 30+ team members. The new challenge was to redesign the website based on the new content and wireframes provided. The company held a redesign contest, and all the members of the design team participated.

My Approach

While working on this internal project, I am also handling our clients’ projects, so I have limited time to dedicate to it. My approach is to set aside 2-3 hours of my time per day, but it still depends on the demand for the clients’ projects I’m handling since they are also a priority. Additionally, since the wireframes are ready, this saves a lot of time in researching and structuring the pages. For the design approach, I conducted competitive analysis, created mockups and prototypes, and handed off the designs to the development team.

Competitive Analysis

I conducted a competitive analysis that focused on the visual design of some of our direct competitors. In comparison to the competitors’ websites, the MVP.dev website was really falling behind in terms of aesthetics and was not very visually appealing. This could reduce user engagement on the website.

Mockups

Here’s some of the initial visual design that I submitted for the redesign contest. I made sure that the visual elements were in line with the content and the wireframes provided. And all the design decisions were based on the research conducted.

Conclusion

I was one of the winners of the website redesign contest, and the other one was one of the interns. Our CEO and COO had decided to combine our work and collaborate on the final mockup.
